Risk of melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer with immunosuppressants, part II: Methotrexate, alkylating agents, biologics, and small molecule inhibitors
In solid organ transplant recipients, skin cancer risk associated with posttransplant immunosuppression has been well-described, and screening practices generally reflect these risks. In addition to agents used posttransplant, other classes of immunosuppressants also have the potential to raise the risk of nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) or melanoma. In the present manuscript, the evidence for melanoma and NMSC risk associated with methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, biologic cytokine inhibitors including TNF (tumor necrosis factor)-alpha and interleukin inhibitors, costimulation blockers such as abatacept, integrin inhibitors ...

SetPoint Medical launches arthritis neurostim study
SetPoint Medical said today it launched the pilot trial of its neurostimulation device, looking to explore the system’s ability to to treat patients with drug refractory rheumatoid arthritis. The device is designed to be surgically placed on the vagus nerve to activate the body’s natural inflammatory reflex, the Valencia, Calif.-based company said. “Despite the effectiveness of biologic and targeted agents for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, many patients either do not respond, lose therapeutic response or are intolerant to these agents. There remains a real need to develop alternative therapeutic appr...

Medical management of an ovarian ectopic pregnancy: a case report
Conclusions Ectopic ovarian pregnancy is a very important medical situation. It should be diagnosed in its early stages otherwise it could be life-threatening and surgical treatment may be inevitable. Because of the importance of fertility, medical treatment is an acceptable option and can be feasible with early diagnosis.

Medical methods for first trimester abortion
CONCLUSIONS: Safe and effective medical abortion methods are available. Combined regimens (prostaglandin combined with mifepristone, letrozole, estradiol valerate, tamoxifen, or methotrexate) may be more effective than single agents (prostaglandin alone or mifepristone alone). In the combined regimen, the dose of mifepristone can probably be lowered to 200 mg without significantly decreasing effectiveness. Vaginal misoprostol is probably more effective than oral administration, and may have fewer side effects than sublingual or buccal. Some results are limited by the small numbers of participants on which they are based. A...

A qualitative analysis of methotrexate self-injection education videos on YouTube
This study demonstrates a minority of videos are useful for teaching MTX injection. Further, video quality does not correlate with video views. While web video may be an additional educational tool available, clinicians need to be familiar with specific resources to help guide and educate their patients to ensure best outcomes.

The Canadian Methotrexate and Etanercept Outcome Study: a randomised trial of discontinuing versus continuing methotrexate after 6 months of etanercept and methotrexate therapy in rheumatoid arthritis
Conclusions Non-inferiority was not achieved. Withdrawing MTX after 6 months of continuation ETN+MTX in MTX inadequate responders did not yield the same degree of improvement between 6 and 12 months compared with continuing ETN+MTX. Trial Registration ClinicalTrials.gov–NCT00654368.

Complicated abdominal pregnancy with placenta feeding off sacral plexus and subsequent multiple ectopic pregnancies during a 4-year follow-up: a case report
Conclusions Ectopic pregnancies should be identified early and evaluated for the etiology of the presentation. Rarely, an ectopic pregnancy implants at an extratubal location. Today, early intervention saves lives and reduces morbidity, but ectopic pregnancy still accounts for 4 to 10 % of pregnancy-related deaths and leads to a high incidence of ectopic site gestations in future pregnancies. Medical management has emerged as a safe alternative to surgery and holds promise for preservation of future fertility; however, surgery remains an acceptable modality. We found that careful and strategic choice of managem...

Efficacy and safety of CT-P13 (biosimilar infliximab) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: comparison between switching from reference infliximab to CT-P13 and continuing CT-P13 in the PLANETRA extension study
Conclusions Comparable efficacy and tolerability were observed in patients who switched from RP to its biosimilar CT-P13 for an additional year and in those who had long-term CT-P13 treatment for 2 years. Trial registration number NCT01571219; Results.

A Module in Medication Safety Involving Remote Access and Review of Veterans' Health Records
Conclusion. Remotely conducting an ambulatory care IPPE course in which pharmacy students used an actual EHR to participate in medication safety monitoring for ambulatory patients expanded the pharmacy school's ability to provide crucial practice experience. Other pharmacy schools struggling with logistical challenges and limited resources should explore this approach to fulfilling the experiential education requirements for pharmacy students.PMID:34283783 | PMC:PMC7779886 | DOI:10.5688/ajpe7664
